Zibanejad's OT tally leads Sens past Bruins

Mika Zibanejad gave Ottawa Senators fans a glimpse of what's to come in years ahead.

Zibanejad, the Sens' first-round pick at the NHL Entry Draft last June, scored 3:17 into overtime to give Ottawa a 2-1 victory against the Boston Bruins at Scotiabank Place on Wednesday night.

The sixth overall pick, Zibanejad took a cross-ice feed from Brian Lee and fired a slap shot past Boston's Tuukka Rask.

Lee scored the other goal for Ottawa, while Nick Foligno had two assists.

"It's a great feeling (to score the winner)," Zibanejad said. "But I feel like I got a little bit lucky to score that goal."

Lane MacDermid scored for the Bruins, who got 34 saves from Rask.

Craig Anderson, making his preseason debut, allowed one goal on 11 shots for Ottawa. Alex Auld played the second half of the game for the Senators, stopping all 14 shots he faced.

MacDermid scored at the 7:01 mark of the second period and the Senators tied it just over a minute later when Lee beat Rask through a screen.

"They were definitely the better team tonight," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "They played a more direct game and we didn't seem to muster up much."

Sabres 3, Canadiens 1

Buffalo defenseman Christian Ehrhoff had a goal and an assist to lead his new team past Montreal at the Bell Centre.

Jason Pominville opened the scoring 15:31 in when he finished off a centering pass from Ehrhoff, who made his Sabres debut. Ehrhoff restored Buffalo's one-goal lead 6:07 into the third when he snapped a shot past Robert Mayer to make it 2-1.

"He's got a really good shot," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said. "I thought probably again tonight there were some opportunities we passed up, we passed some plays around, but you don't usually have to tell him to shoot. He's a shooter and he can sling it with a wrist shot and he can hit it pretty hard with a slap shot."

Tyler Ennis got an empty-net goal in the final seconds.

Ryan Miller stopped all 11 shots he faced in his first preseason start. Jhonas Enroth made 12 saves in relief for his second straight win.

P.K. Subban scored a power-play goal for Montreal late in the second.

Blue Jackets 4, Capitals 3 (OT)

Alexandre Giroux scored on the power play with 2:24 left in overtime and Columbus survived a late Washington rally to beat the Capitals at Nationwide Arena.

Maksim Mayorov had a goal and an assist, and Cam Atkinson and David Savard also scored for Columbus.

Jeff Halpern and Roman Hamrlik both had a goal and assist, and Andrew Carroll scored for Washington. Alex Ovechkin didn't play for the Capitals.

Carroll and Hamrlik scored through traffic in the final 2:26 of regulation to make it 3-3.

Steven Mason went the distance for Columbus, finishing with 27 saves. Caps goalie Braden Holtby played the first two periods and stopped 12 of 14 shots.

Devils 2, Rangers 1

Patrik Elias scored 45 seconds into overtime to lead New Jersey past the Rangers before a record crowd of 9,420 at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.

Zach Parise capitalized on a Rangers turnover for the winning goal, as he collected Steve Eminger's errant breakout pass and fed Patrik Elias, who beat Cam Talbot for his first goal of the preseason.

The Devils allowed a 1-0 lead to slip away late in regulation, as Dale Weise found the back of the net with 4:21 left in regulation.

Petr Sykora, who is attending Devils camp on a tryout basis, opened the scoring at 11:34 of the first period. He received a pass from rookie defenseman Adam Larsson for a shot that beat Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist from the top of the right circle.

Larsson, the fourth-overall pick at this year's NHL Entry Draft, was paired with Henrik Tallinder and worked the power play with Ilya Kovalchuk at the point. He's bidding to become the first 18-year-old to make the team since Sykora accomplished the feat in 1995-96.

Keith Kinkaid got the start in net for the Devils and stopped all 10 shots he faced in just over 31 minutes. New Jersey outshot the Rangers 42-21 in Peter DeBoer's debut as Devils coach.

Blues 4, Lightning 3

Adam Cracknell scored a tiebreaking goal with 2:20 to play and Chris Stewart had a goal and two assists as St. Louis beat Tampa Bay in Orlando, Fla.

Nikita Nikitin and Ian Cole added power-play goals for the Blues, while Tampa Bay got extra-man goals from Marc-Andre Bergeron, Cory Conacher and Eric Brewer.

Dwayne Roloson played the first 30 minutes and allowed one goal on nine shots in his preseason debut.

The Blues went up 4-3 when Cracknell scored from in close.

Conacher and Stewart traded goals midway through the third before Brewer beat goalie Ben Bishop to pull the Lightning even at 3 with 5:19 remaining.

Sharks 6, Ducks 1 

Logan Couture scored two of San Jose's six consecutive goals in the final two periods, and Thomas Greiss made 19 saves as the Sharks cruised past Anaheim at the Honda Center.

Andrew Murray and Sean Sullivan scored third-period power-play goals for the Sharks, who also got goals from Jason Demers and Tommy Wingels. Ryane Clowe and Justin Braun both had two assists.

Andrew Gordon scored Anaheim's only goal with 1:35 left in the first period. Corey Perry made his preseason debut along with linemates Bobby Ryan and Ryan Getzlaf.

Jeff Deslauriers made 12 saves for the Ducks before Iiro Tarkki gave up four goals on 14 shots.

"We didn't do a lot of things with the puck that gave us any type of forecheck to get going," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "We slapped the puck and put it into areas where we really didn't have a chance to recover it. When we did have chances, it seems like we just didn't have any finish. Consequently, a lot of the pucks that were bouncing went in off us.

"There were weird types of goals that were scored. We were picking them out of our net and they were happy about what was happening. They earned it and were better than we were."

Kings 3, Coyotes 2 

Dustin Penner scored with 49 seconds left in the third period as Los Angeles edged Phoenix at Jobing.com Arena in split-squad action.

Penner shot eluded Jason LaBarbera's glove and trickled into the net for the second of two third-period goals by the Kings as they erased a 2-1 deficit.

Tyler Toffoli redirected Patrick Mullen's shot on goal with Los Angeles on the power play at 14:14 of the final period.

That came less than four minutes after captain Shane Doan gave Phoenix the lead.

Doan put the Coyotes in front when he converted Ray Whitney's pass from the right circle at 10:29 of the final period.

Coyotes 2, Kings 1 (SO)

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored in the fourth round of the shootout as Phoenix beat Los Angeles at Staples Center in a split-squad game.

After Louis Dominigue turned away Scott Parse's attempt, Ekman-Larsson beat Martin Jones' glove side with a wrist shot for the winner. Kings captain Dustin Brown and Phoenix's Andy Miele each converted in the second round of the shootout.

Ethan Werek opened the scoring at 8:21 of the first period off a feed from Darian Dziurynski. Los Angeles countered on Viatcheslav Voynov's power-play goal early in the second, with Brown and Mike Richards drawing assists.

Justin Pogge started in net for Phoenix and stopped 27 of 28 shots before being replaced to begin the third.

Jonathan Quick allowed a goal on 13 shots in 40 minutes.
