First period was Panthers' best in 2011-12

Advantage Margin: 0
There weren't a lot of power plays in Panthers games -- Florida was in the bottom-six in power plays for and against with 267 of each.

Special Teams Goal Margin: -7
The Panthers' penalty-killers were a lot better than the power-play unit, which finished last in the rankings at 13.1 percent and next-to-last in goals with 35. The PK unit was sixth at 84.6 percent.

Goals by defensemen: 37
The Panthers' two most prolific scorers from the blue line, Dennis Wideman and Bryan McCabe, both were dealt at the trade deadline. Third-year defenseman Dmitry Kulikov is the leader among returnees with six.

The Panthers went 0-4 at home on the way to another poor season in the shootout -- they are now 24-44 all-time and just 7-28 in 35 tiebreakers at the BankAtlantic Center.

Record: 23-8-8

The Panthers were terrific in getting the jump on the opposition at home, getting the first goal 25 times in 41 games. The road was another story -- they scored first just 14 times.

Best 2010-11 Number: 64
Goals scored by the Panthers in the first period, one more than they allowed. The problems came in the second period, when they were outscored 75-54.

Worst 2010-11 Number: .258
Florida's winning percentage when outshooting the opposition. The Panthers were just 8-17-6 when they had more shots; they were 21-18-6 when the other team had bigger numbers on the shot counter.
    
Scheduling
New coach Kevin Dineen better have his team ready early and prepared for a grind in the final weeks of the season. The Panthers play four of their first five on the road, including visits to Pittsburgh and Washington and a home-and-home with Tampa Bay. They have seven of nine at home to end 2011, and then finish the season with five of their last seven on the road, including trips to Detroit and Washington.
