Umberger signs five-year extension with Blue Jackets
R.J. Umberger believes in the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team showed him 23 million reasons why they believe in him.

Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson announced Wednesday via his Twitter feed that Umberger signed a five-year contract extension Tuesday. The Columbus Dispatch is reporting the contract is worth $23 million, which would be an average annual value of $4.6 million.

"We have signed RJ to a 5 year extension," Howson tweeted. "Thrilled to have such a big part of our team signed long term."

Umberger is entering his fourth season in Columbus after spending his first three NHL seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. He hasn't missed a game in a Blue Jackets uniform and has put up 74 goals and 84 assists. He has scored at least 23 goals in each of his three seasons with Columbus and totaled 32 assists in each of the last two. He had a career-best 57 points last season.
Quote of the Day

That was something I've been dreaming of, something I've told myself before the third period I was going to do ... It was an amazing feeling. It's hard to describe. I didn't believe it went in at first but when I saw all the reaction and all the fans going crazy and my teammates going crazy, it's just an unbelievable feeling. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know whether to jump or just skate and do a Theo Fleury. I don't think I'm the same caliber player he is so I couldn't do it.
