The six-year veteran has played in 373 regular-season games for Toronto, Vancouver and San Jose, scoring 68 goals and adding 105 assists for 173 points. He split last season between Atlant Moscow of the KHL and San Jose, appearing in 35 games for the Sharks, scoring five goals and adding eight assists, along with a plus-10 rating. He also went 1-6-7 in 18 playoff games.

Wellwood had a career-high 45 points as a rookie with the Leafs in 2005-06 and had his best goal-scoring season in 2008-09 when he fired home 18 for Vancouver.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
