Stillman retires, joins Panthers' staff
Cory Stillman announced Saturday he will retire from the National Hockey League and will join the Florida Panthers' hockey operations staff as the club's player development assistant.

Cory Stillman announced Saturday he will retire from the National Hockey League and will join the Florida Panthers' hockey operations staff as the club's player development assistant.

Stillman, 37, earned two Stanley Cup championships (Tampa Bay in 2004 and Carolina in 2006) in a 16-year career.

"This game has been great to me," he said. "I am forever grateful to all those players, coaches, general managers and everyone that I have been associated with throughout my playing career.

"Furthermore, I appreciate all the support that my wife Mara, my parents Bill and Sandra and children have provided me. At this time, the Panthers have provided me with an excellent opportunity to work with the talented players in our organization and I look forward to starting another chapter in my career."

Stillman played in 1,025 NHL games for Calgary (1994-2001), St. Louis (2001-03), Tampa Bay (2003-04), Carolina (2005-08, 2011), Ottawa (2007-08) and Florida (2008-11) and scored 278 goals with 449 assists and 489 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 82 playoff games, registering 51 points (19-32-51) with a plus-7 rating. He was drafted by the Calgary Flames with their first choice (No. 6) at the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.

"Cory is a first-class act who was well respected in our locker room and throughout the league," said Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon. "We are honored to have someone with his character and hockey intellect join our hockey operations staff."

Stillman will work closely with Director of Player Development Brian Skrudland in monitoring the progress and development of the organization's prospects.
