It was the performance of seven-time Norris Trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom that helped the Detroit Red Wings avoided a sweep in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the San Jose Sharks.
Lidstrom scored two first-period goals in a five-minute span to give Detroit an early 3-0 lead in the game. However, the Sharks were not put off by the deficit and tallied three goals of their own to send the game into a 3-3 early in the third frame. The third period was anyone’s game, but it was Detroit’s Darren Helm who stepped up and scored off a perfect pass from Patrick Eaves to give Detroit a 4-3 lead with 1:27 left in the game.
