MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens have signed checking winger Ryan White to a US$625,000, one-year contract.

White, 23, was a restricted free agent.

The Brandon, Man., native split last season between the Canadiens and the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs. In 27 NHL games, he had two goals and three assists, was plus-5 and averaged 8:55 of ice time.

The physical winger who is likely to be a regular in the Montreal lineup in 2011-12 has played 43 NHL games over two seasons. White was selected 66th overall by Montreal in the 2006 draft.

Quote of the Day

After being through it and seeing the other [outdoor] games on TV, just the atmosphere is spectacular. To stand here -- and we are essentially almost on the blue line -- and look up [into the stands] and knowing it is going to be packed and playing our biggest rival in this setting is going to be pretty special.
