The third game of the Western Conference Quarterfinals between the Vancouver Canucks and the Chicago Blackhawks was a full-out battle, and the Canucks came out on top, 3-2, in the close contest. The loss was the third straight for the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks, who tied the score 2-2 in the third period on a power-play goal.
But Mikael Samuelsson played the hero for Vancouver, backhanding the game-winning goal past Corey Crawford at the 6:48 mark of the third period to deliver a crippling blow to the Hawks, who had returned to the United Center hoping to cut their series deficit in half. Vancouver held that lead for the remainder of the game to go up 3-0 in the series.
