Simmonds agrees on multi-year deal with Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers have signed restricted free agent Wayne Simmonds to a multi-year contract.
The Philadelphia Flyers have signed restricted free agent Wayne Simmonds to a multi-year contract. Terms of the deal were not revealed, but CSNPhilly.com is reporting it to be a two-year, $3.5 million pact.

Simmonds, acquired from the Los Angeles Kings last month in the blockbuster Mike Richards trade, had 14 goals and 16 assists in 80 games last season, and added 3 points in six playoff games.

Those numbers were down a bit from his breakout 2009-10 season, when he had 16 goals, 24 assists and a plus-22 rating.

"We think Wayne has some real upside in terms of offensive production," said Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren. "So we look for some good things from Wayne."

Simmonds believes he can get back to the level he showed two seasons ago.

"I'm just going to come in and play my game," said Simmonds. "My game speaks for itself. I'm a rough and tumble winger, go up and down the wall, take pucks to the net. That's what I'm good at and that's what I'm going to stick to.

"I think last year I had a down year. I feel like I can definitely reach that (second-season numbers) and beyond in this next year. I just want to get ready. I'm excited."

Quote of the Day

Hopefully [Jonathan] has a year that pushes us, that is the organization, to speak to him next summer and looking for [a long-term contract]. Because the thought process is trying to get a goaltender, and hopefully it's Jonathan, to be the stabilizer for this franchise.
