The Wild made the announcement Wednesday, giving the 22-year-old Gillies a contract that should help cement his status with the team heading into training camp.
Gillies was the team's first-round pick in 2007. He skated in 45 games with the Wild in 2008-09, but played in just seven last year, scoring one goal.
He spent most of his time with the team's AHL affiliate in Houston, playing for Mike Yeo, who was recently promoted to head coach with the Wild. Gillies had 11 goals and 15 assists in 64 games for the Aeros last year. He also scored seven goals during their run to the Calder Cup finals.
