Trotter, 24, played with Riga in Kontinental Hockey League last season, putting up 9 goals and 26 points.
Before going to Riga, Trotter had played the previous three seasons with Hamilton, Montreal's farm team in the American Hockey League. There, the 5-foot-10, 180 pound left winger amassed 57 goals and 135 points in 172 games. In his final year with the Bulldogs, 2009-10, Trotter led the team with 36 goals.
Never drafted, Trotter joined Montreal as a free agent in 2008, but managed just two games at the NHL level.
It's cool when you think about how many great American players have played the game and the two players that were at that 18-game point streak and what they've done in their careers. It's pretty cool right now, but it was kind of overshadowed by the loss.
