Blues add depth at forward with signing of Sterling

The St. Louis Blues announced Monday that veteran free-agent forward Brett Sterling has been signed to a one-year, two-way deal.

Sterling, 27, spent the majority of this past season with the American Hockey League's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, putting up 53 points (26 goals) in 65 games.

The 5-foot-7, 175-pound forward also played in seven games last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In those contests, he had 3 goals and 5 points.

He has made just 26 NHL appearances, between Atlanta and Pittsburgh, and has 5 goals and 9 points. He has been a prolific scorer at the AHL level, however. In a five-year AHL career, sterling has 316 points (171 goals) and 422 penalty minutes in 319 games.

"Brett has been a top goal scorer wherever he's been and gives our organization depth at the forward position," said Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong.

The Los Angeles, Calif., native was originally drafted by Atlanta in the fifth round, No. 145, of the 2003 Entry Draft.
