Oilers sign Nugent-Hopkins
GM Steve Tambellini announced Saturday that the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on a three-year entry-level contract.
The Edmonton Oilers didn't need much time to get the No. 1 pick in the 2011 Entry Draft under contract.

GM Steve Tambellini announced Saturday that the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on a three-year entry-level contract.

Nugent-Hopkins, who was No. 1 overall by the Oilers on June 24 at the Entry Draft in St. Paul, Minn., will put on an Oilers jersey for the first time starting Monday when he participates in the Oilers Development Camp.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound native of Burnaby, B.C., had 31 goals and 106 points for Red Deer of the Western Hockey League. His 75 assists led the WHL, and his 106 points were fourth.

Nugent-Hopkins was drafted first overall by the Rebels and debuted with Red Deer as an underage player in 2008-09, scoring 2 goals and adding 4 assists in five games.  In 2009-10, Nugent-Hopkins was named WHL Rookie of the Year, after recording 65 points (24 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games. He was also a finalist for Canadian Hockey League Rookie of the Year.
