Center Michal Handzus has signed a two-year deal with the San Jose Sharks. The team did not disclose any financial figures, but TSN reports that the contract is worth $5 million.

Handzus, 34, spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, and posted 12 goals and 30 points in 82 games this season while playing primarily in a checking role. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder has had four 20-goal seasons, the most recent in 2009-10 when he scored 20 goals and 42 points in 81 games for L.A.

Handzus missed only one game in four seasons with the Kings. He has also played for St. Louis, Phoenix, Philadelphia and Chicago. In 844 regular-season games, the native of Slovakia has 172 goals and 435 points. He also has 11 goals and 32 points in 73 playoff games, including a goal and an assist in L.A.'s six-game loss to the Sharks this spring.

"Michal is an extremely skilled player that has a great mix of size and competitiveness," GM Doug Wilson said in a statement. "He is one of the top penalty-killing forwards in this League and has the ability to play in any situation."
Quote of the Day

I think I'm lucky to be here and you definitely don't take very many things for granted, if you take anything for granted. I definitely put my family and my wife and my close family in perspective, that they're the most important thing in the world. I want to do whatever I can to play hockey, but like I said, under the right circumstances.
