Danny Briere was set to face his former team for the first time in the playoffs since leaving Buffalo in 2006-07, as the Flyers and Sabres kicked off their playoff series in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
While both teams had their fair share of chances in the first two periods, goaltenders Sergei Bobrovsky and Ryan Miller stood tall and kept the game scoreless heading into the final stanza. Searching for a spark, Buffalo opened the scoring 5:56 into the third period when Patrick Kaleta tapped in a rebound to give Miller all the offense he would need on this day.
Miller, Briere's former teammate in Buffalo, silenced the orange-clad Wells Fargo Center crowd by stopping all 35 shots in a 1-0 road victory for the Sabres in Game 1.
