Hamhuis undergoes successful surgery
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis, who was injured in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final and missed the remainder of the series against the Boston Bruins, underwent successful sports hernia surgery, President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced on Friday.

Hamhuis suffered an abdominal injury on an attempted hip check of Bruins forward Milan Lucic. His loss, combined with a four-game suspension handed out to Aaron Rome later in the series for a hit on Nathan Horton, left the Canucks thin on the blue line for the remainder of the seven-game series.

In his first season with Vancouver after signing a lucrative offseason contract, Hamhuis finished with 6 goals, 23 assists and a career-best plus-29 rating in 64 games. He added 1 goal and 6 points in 19 postseason contests.

Taken with the 12th pick of the first round by Nashville in the 2001 Entry Draft, Hamhuis played his first six NHL seasons with the Predators. For his career, he has 38 goals and 184 points in 547 games.
