Senators lead way with 12 picks
It figures to be a busy weekend for Ottawa, which holds 12 picks at the Entry Draft in St. Paul, Minn. Edmonton picks first for the second year in a row.
The Ottawa Senators, Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs will be quite busy this weekend.

The Senators have stockpiled 12 picks -- tops in the NHL -- while the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs have 11 apiece in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, which kicks off with the opening round on June 24 (7 p.m. ET, VERSUS, TSN, NHL Network) at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

Of Chicago's 11 picks, six are over the first three rounds. While Toronto also has 11 picks, five of its selections are in Rounds 6 and 7. Toronto will be busy Friday for Round 1 as they own the 25th overall pick (via Flyers) and the 30th overall pick (via Bruins).

For the second straight season, Edmonton has the No. 1 pick. The Oilers will also pick 19th, as they represent one of four teams with multiple first-round picks. The Avalanche own the No. 2 and No. 11 selections while the Senators will pick at No. 6 and No. 21.

The New York Rangers have the 15th selection, then won't draft another player until the fourth round. In total, the Rangers -- whose second- and third-round picks are now in the hands of the Flames and Panthers, respectively -- have only four picks, fewest among all 30 teams.

Six different teams have only five picks, including the Flyers, who don't have any selections in the first two rounds.

The Blackhawks will have the last say, as they own the 211st pick -- the final selection of Round 7 -- which they acquired from the newly crowned Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins. 

And though there are 211 picks, only 210 players will be drafted this year. Pick No. 69, a third-rounder once owned by the Devils, is vacant as a part of New Jersey's punishment for circumventing the salary cap with its initial attempt to sign Ilya Kovalchuk last summer.
