NHL Network, NHL.com and NHL Radio will provide comprehensive coverage of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft from Minnesota, where NHL clubs gather this Friday night and Saturday afternoon to select their future star players. NHL Network will air two days of full coverage, while NHL.com will deploy a team of writers, reporters and videographers to cover each and every Draft selection and all the NHL news of the day.
The puck drops on NHL Network's Draft coverage on Thursday with a special edition of NHL On the Fly beginning at 6 pm. Regular OTF host Brian Duff and former NHL general manager Craig Button will share their analysis of the top players and make their first round mock Draft selections.
In order to prepare fans for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Duff and Button will host a 30-minute show immediately following OTF titled 2011 NHL Network Scouting Combine Recap Presented by Reebok at 7:00 p.m. The NHL Combine, which took place in early June in Toronto, is a forum for clubs to evaluate the fitness and strength of the NHL's future stars and interview those players one-on-one ahead of the Draft selection process.
The recap show features interviews with top-ranked prospects, all-access video with trainers and doctors and behind-the-scenes footage from the grueling VO2 testing station. An interview with Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini, who has the first selection of this year's Entry Draft, will round out an overview of the week-long Combine event.
NHL Network's daily signature show NHL Live will broadcast on Friday afternoon from 4–6 p.m. with Bill Pidto and Dave Maloney. The twosome will keep viewers apprised of NHL news and notes in advance of Friday's Draft and will also carry segments live from Minnesota.
NHL Network's Draft coverage will kick into high gear on Friday, June 24, at 6:00 p.m. ET with NHL Network Draft Preview Show Presented by Cisco, broadcast live from Xcel Energy Center, the site of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft with Duff, Button and E.J. Hradek. The show will focus on interviews with the projected top five Draft picks and will also feature player profiles and team draft histories as well as highlight their mock draft and predictions. Regular NHL Live co-host Deb Placey will also be on hand and will be providing the latest news and transaction info as she works the room as the on-site roaming reporter.
Carried live on VERSUS in the United States and TSN and RDS in Canada, the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft will be telecast beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday.
NHL Radio, with host Don La Greca, will provide first-round coverage of the NHL Entry Draft, which can be heard on radio stations across North America, including XM channel 92 and Sirius Premier (formerly known as "The Best of XM") channel 207.
Immediately following the conclusion of round one, the NHL Network team will be on the air with NHL Network Draft Round 1 Recap Presented by Cisco for all post-Draft reaction and a preview of the Draft's second day, complete with profiles of players still on the board.
On Day Two, the NHL Network team will have exclusive coverage from its set on stage at XCel Energy Center beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET. The panel and reporters will take viewers through Rounds 2 through 7 with interviews and analysis, video features, historical notes, hidden gems and special tributes.
