Report: Predators file for arbitration with Weber
While the Nashville Predators are continuing negotiations with soon-to-be restricted free-agent defenseman Shea Weber, they've also reportedly filed for salary arbitration with him.

According to TSN, sources say the Predators did so in order to protect themselves from another team making an offer sheet on Weber.

Under the terms of the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, Weber can elect whether the arbitration is for a one-year or two-year term. That decision is not required until 48 hours prior to the arbitration hearing, which can't happen until after July 20.

TSN reports that Weber and his agent, Jarrett Bousquet, have been negotiating for the last two days.

Weber is one of three finalists for the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman, which will be presented Wednesday at the NHL Awards show in Las Vegas.
