Panthers re-sign Skille to two-year contract

Panthers re-sign Skille to two-year contract
The Florida Panthers have announced the re-signing of right winger Jack Skille to a two-year deal. Skille scored 8 goals and added 11 assists for 19 points in 62 games with the Panthers and the Chicago Blackhawks this past season.

Drafted with the No. 7 pick in 2005 by the Blackhawks, Skille was traded to Florida in February as part of a five-player deal. He was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

Panthers GM Dave Tallon drafted Skille while Tallon was the GM of the Blackhawks and liked enough of what he saw in the Madison, Wis., native to acquire him in Florida.

"We are pleased to have Jack return for the next several seasons," Tallon told the Panthers website. "He is a high-energy and hard-working player who made the most out of his opportunity with our team, despite missing 12 games due to injury. We look forward to Jack's continued contributions to our organization both on and off the ice."

Skille recently played for Team USA at the 2011 World Championships in Slovakia. Before making it to the NHL, Skille played two seasons at the University of Wisconsin, winning the 2006 NCAA National Championship.

The Panthers also signed 2005 sixth-round draft pick Roman Derlyuk to a one-year entry-level contract. Derlyuk spent the last three seasons playing in Russia's KHL. The 24-year-old defenseman split time this past season playing with Balashikha MVD HC and Moscow Dynamo.
