Luongo would like Thornton's goal back
Roberto Luongo's gaffe with the puck allowed Joe Thornton to score, furthering a reputation that Luongo is allowing soft goals on a regular basis.
VANCOUVER – Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo is developing a reputation for allowing one weak goal a night.

The Nashville Predators had at least three such goals including one from David Legwand, who put home the puck from the corner of the rink while standing on the goal line in Game 6 of the second round.

Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals was no different as Joe Thornton opened the scoring at 18:47 of the first period on another Luongo gaffe.

The Canucks' goalie went behind the net to play the puck around for his forward; however, it went right up the middle on to Thornton's stick. The Sharks captain then beat Luongo five-hole for his third goal of the playoffs.

The 32-year-old Montreal native explained himself afterwards.

"I don't like to make excuses, but if you guys remember the play a few minutes earlier Eager slashed my stick, so it was kind of broken and when I went to make the pass I didn't get all of it," he said. "It looked pretty bad, obviously, but you know what, I've been playing the puck many times this year and I think I did a pretty good job at it.

"I'm going to make mistakes. (Marty) Turco makes mistakes playing the puck and he's the best in the League."

Luongo finished the night turning aside 27 Sharks shots for his ninth win of the post-season.
