PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Penguins signed forward Paul Thompson to a two-year, entry level contract on Monday.

Thompson, the 2010-11 Hockey East Player of the Year while at New Hampshire, led the league with 52 points this season. He scored 28 goals, and led the No. 11 Wildcats to the NCAA Regional Finals, where they lost to No. 9 Notre Dame 2-1 on Sunday.

In four seasons with New Hampshire, Thompson had 57 goals, 55 assists and 112 points.

Pittsburgh plays host to Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Quote of the Day

I don't think it's really truly going to sink in until we drop the puck, to be honest. I know there's going to be a lot of smoke and mirrors with the media attention and all that. We came [Monday] and it was sort of a light day to get things organized. We just want to focus in on the business aspect, the game itself. That's what we're preparing to do. Get these next couple of days out of the way and it's game on.
