The Vancouver Canucks announced Monday that center Manny Malhotra will miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs due to an eye injury.
The team announced the news with a statement on its website: "Following an initial procedure and continued treatment it has been determined through consultation with team doctors and specialists that Manny Malhotra will not return to the Canucks lineup for the remainder of this regular season and playoffs."
Malhotra was injured when a shot by the Avalanche's Erik Johnson hit him in the face during a game March 16.
In his first season with the Canucks, the 30-year-old has 11 goals, 30 points and a plus-9 rating. He's also second in the League in faceoff winning percentage at 61.7 percent. As the team's checking-line center, he's also had a significant role in the team's League-low 2.29 goals-against average.
