Fantasy Spin: Impact of Pronger, Arnott injuries

Wednesday, 03.16.2011 / 7:11 PM / Fantasy Hockey Draft Rankings, Advice and Analysis

By Sergei J. Feldman - NHL.com Staff Writer

Everything's not sunny in Philadelphia -- and it may not be for your fantasy rosters, either.

Despite holding the top spot in the Eastern Conference, the Flyers, like you, will have to go through the next 3-4 weeks without the presence of Chris Pronger. The All-Star defenseman has been out since March 8 and underwent surgery to his right hand this week to fix a broken bone.

Fantasy owners who have Pronger will miss him. Through 50 games, he has 21 assists, 25 points, 44 PIMs and 112 shots on goal. Despite the injury, he still has 76 percent ownership in Yahoo! fantasy leagues.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Conference is as competitive as it is depleted with injured players. Joining Pronger on the shelf is recently acquired Washington Capitals center Jason Arnott, who is week-to-week with an undisclosed injury.

Arnott has points in five of his seven games with the Capitals, including his most recent three games. For the season, including his time in New Jersey, Arnott has 15 goals, 14 assists, 38 PIMs and 155 shots through 69 games.

Staying with the East, specifically the Atlantic Division, while New Jersey Devils’ star forward Zach Parise is getting closer to returning after an early-season knee injury, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has begun skating after being sidelined for 30 games with a concussion.

However, no return date has been set for either player.
