Ducks get Jarkko Ruutu from Ottawa
The Anaheim Ducks have acquired Jarkko Ruutu from the Ottawa Senators for a sixth round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
The Anaheim Ducks, looking to bolster their postseason chances, added depth to their front line Thursday by acquiring left wing Jarkko Ruutu from Ottawa. The Senators will receive a sixth-round draft pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, which Anaheim previously acquired from Phoenix.

Ruutu, a winger known for his toughness and grit, has 2 goals and 8 assists in 50 games this season, his 11th in the NHL.

The move continues a string of recent trades made by Ottawa GM Bryan Murray as he attempts to build up draft picks after a disappointing season. Ottawa has center Chris Kelly to Boston for a second-round pick on Tuesday and shipped center Mike Fisher to Nashville last week for a first-round pick in 2011 and a conditional pick in 2012.

Anaheim has also been an active player in the trade market this month. Before shipping winger Aaron Voros to Toronto for a conditional draft pick Tuesday, the Ducks re-acquired defenseman Francois Beauchemin, also from the Maple Leafs, in exchange for Joffrey Lupul and Jake Gardiner.

The Ducks have 68 points this season and are tied with four other teams for the last five playoff spots in the West -- but all five entered Thursday just one point ahead of ninth-place Los Angeles.
