Blues place Halak on IR with hand injury
St. Louis Blues place Jaroslav Halak on IR with hand injury.
The St. Louis Blues have placed goaltender Jaroslav Halak on injured reserve due to an injury to his right hand.

Halak is 19-17-10 in 43 games this season, with a 2.63 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.

In Halak's absence, expect backup Ty Conklin to see plenty of work. The veteran is 6-4-4 with a 3.21 GAA and .882 save percentage in 15 games.

The Blues enter Thursday's action 13th in the Western Conference, nine points out of a playoff spot.

Ben Bishop was recalled from AHL Peoria to fill Halak's roster spot and backup Conklin. In six NHL games, Bishop is 1-1-1 with a 2.94 GAA and .893 save percentage, all numbers he accumulated during the 2008-09 season. In 29 AHL games this season, Bishop is 15-12-1 with a 2.52 GAA, .916 save percentage and two shutouts.
Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
