Around the NHL: Thrashers' Enstrom on IR

The Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday placed defenseman Tobias Enstrom on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 22.

Enstrom, 26, is tied for the team lead with 41 points (8 goals, 33 assists) in 50 games this season.  He paces the Thrashers and ranks fourth among NHL defenseman with 33 assists.  The 5-foot-10, 180-pound defenseman was selected to participate in the 2011 NHL All-Star Weekend, but was unable to due to a broken finger.

The Nordingra, Sweden, native has 161 points (24 goals, 137 assists) in 296 career games over four seasons with the Thrashers from 2007-11.  He is the franchise’s all-time leader in points and assists by a defenseman, and ranks second in goals by a defenseman trailing only Yannick Tremblay (33).  Enstrom also appeared in a franchise record 296 consecutive games from Oct. 5, 2007 to Jan. 22, 2011.

Enstrom was selected by the Thrashers in the eighth round (No. 239) of the 2003 Entry Draft.

Blue Jackets recall Moore -- Columbus called up defenseman John Moore, its first-round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft, from its AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons, on Thursday. He is expected to join the team in Detroit on Friday night.

Moore, 20, has 3 goals and 15 assists in 47 games with Springfield in his first professional season. He leads club defensemen in assists, is tied for tops in points and was selected to play in the 2011 AHL All-Star Game. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound native of Winnetka, Ill., was the Jackets' first pick (No. 21) in the June 2009 draft.

Flames bring up Bouma -- The Calgary Flames on Thursday recalled forward Lance Bouma from the Abbotsford Heat of the AHL. He will join the team on Friday.

Bouma, a native of Provost, Alta., is playing in his rookie professional season with the Heat. In 49 games he has 11 goals and 8 assists for 19 points, along with 49 penalty minutes. Bouma leads the Heat with 5 power-play goals and is tied with teammate Greg Nemisz in goals (11) as a rookie on the club.

Bouma was Calgary’s third-round pick (No. 78) in the 2008 Entry Draft.

Leafs loan D'Amigo to Kitchener -- The Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday loaned 19-year-old forward Jerry D’Amigo to the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League.

D’Amigo has played in 41 games for the Leafs' AHL farm team, the Toronto Marlies, this season, scoring 5 goals and adding 9 assists for 14 points, along with 23 penalty minutes. He also represented the United States and won a bronze medal at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, going 1-1-2 in six games. In 2009, he was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. team.

D'Amigo, a sixth-round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft, signed with the Leafs last summer after one season playing at RPI, where he was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year after scoring 10 goals and finishing with 34 points in 36 games. Kitchener held his junior hockey rights.

Rangers return Newbury to AHL -- The New York Rangers on Thursday assigned forward Kris Newbury to the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League.

Newbury, 28, had 1 assist and 35 penalty minutes in eight games with the Rangers this season. He returns to Connecticut, where he has 5 goals and 31 assists for 36 points, along with 91 penalty minutes, in 43 games this season. 

The Brampton, Ont., native was originally San Jose’s fifth round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.  He was acquired by the Rangers from Detroit in exchange for forward Jordan Owens on March 3, 2010.

Isles send Reese back to Bridgeport -- The New York Islanders returned defenseman Dylan Reese to their AHL farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, on Thursday.

Reese had 1 assist, 8 penalty minutes and was minus-12 in 21 games with the Isles this season. The 26-year-old had 2 goals and 2 assists with 19 PIM while playing for the Isles late last season after being acquired from Columbus on March 1, 2010.
