Ward, Thomas to battle in fastest skater competition
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Carolina's Cam Ward and Boston's Tim Thomas will take part in 1-on-1 fastest skating goaltender competition during the Honda NHL SuperSkills on Saturday night at RBC Center.

During past skills competitions, the fastest skater always excluded the goaltenders. It'll be different this year as Ward and Thomas will battle it out to see which goaltender is more fleet of skate.

"I hope my legs don't turn to jelly and I don't bite it in the corner or anything like that," Ward said on the red carpet Saturday. "I'm going up against Tim Thomas and that guy looks like a bull. He's probably pretty quick out there."

Ward, 26, is 10 years younger than Thomas, which could give him the advantage in the race. But no one will question Thomas' fire and competitive nature, making for one of most interesting facets to an All-Star skills competition in recent memory.

Quote of the Day

We've got to find a way to win a game. He's played well in the minors, now he gets his opportunity. We tried [with Jonathan Bernier]. The way I look at it, you get opportunities and you make the most of it. That's what [James Reimer] did. Now another opportunity is here and Sparks ... you gotta grab it. Is he ready? We'll find out.
