Isles' Martin suspended 2 games
New York Islanders forward Matt Martin has been suspended for two games and will forfeit $6,792.12 in salary for delivering a blindside check to the head of Phoenix Coyotes forward Vernon Fiddler during Saturday's game at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Martin's fine is based on his average annual salary and is calculated under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 6:23 of the first period. Martin was assessed a two-minute penalty for charging.

Martin will be out of the lineup Wednesday against Tampa Bay and Thursday at New Jersey. He is eligible to return Sunday, when the Islanders host Montreal.
