Stewart out indefinitely with broken hand
The Colorado Avalanche will be without leading goal-scorer Chris Stewart indefinitely after the power forward broke his left hand during Saturday's game against the Minnesota Wild.

Stewart, who has a team-best 11 goals, was injured during a second-period fight the Wild's Kyle Brodziak.

"Hockey's a game of emotions, and things happen during the course of a game," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said following Saturday's game. "You wish, obviously, that (an injury) wouldn't happen, but that's the way the game goes. It's a physical game out there."

Stewart's injury is the latest in what's become an ongoing saga in Colorado. The Avs have six players on injured reserve, as well as a few others that are banged up.

The Avs next play Tuesday, when they host the Thrashers. Stewart certainly won't be available, but Sacco doesn't have the time to dwell on who won't be playing -- he's just ready to fill out the lineup card with whoever is available.

"You never want to lose any player, and Chris is a big part of our team. He's been playing very well for us," said Sacco. "But like we've done in the past and we've dealt with this year, we'll deal with injuries as they come. Change brings opportunity and somebody else will have to step up in his place. We've been very resilient when we've had injuries and this organization has a lot of depth."
