OTTAWA (AP) -The memorial for the daughter of Ottawa Senators assistant Luke Richardson is being held in the hockey arena.
Mourners, including busloads of students, are filling Scotiabank Place for a service for 14-year-old Daron Richardson. The teen committed suicide on Friday.
The Senators delayed a scheduled trip to Raleigh, N.C., to attend the memorial. The team will fly out for the Wednesday night game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Captain Daniel Alfredsson, a strong advocate for mental-health causes, says the team didn't hesitate to change its travel plans.
The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be sent to the youth program of the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health.
Luke Richardson played 21 seasons in the NHL before retiring in 2008.
