The New Jersey Devils recalled defenseman Tyler Eckford from the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Albany under emergency conditions Thursday after learning Matthew Corrente had suffered a broken left hand during Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Eckford, 25, has 2 assists and a plus-2 rating in six games this season with Albany, the Devil's top affiliate. He debuted in New Jersey last season, recording 1 assist in three games. The Vancouver native recorded career highs of 8 goals and 31 points in Lowell last season, and was the AHL Devils' lone representative in the 2010 AHL All-Star Game.

The Devils also recalled left wing Alexander Vasyunov, who made his NHL debut against the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 23 in a 6-1 loss. He has 1 assist in five games with Albany.

For me, it's a great win for our hockey team and for a lot of people back in Columbus, especially our fans in particular … people who have been devoted to this organization, it's big.
