Modano homecoming highlights Thursday schedule
Mike Modano has been on the ice for every home opener in Dallas Stars' history. He'll be on the ice for this one, too -- just not in a Dallas uniform.

The greatest player in the history of the Stars will be wearing red and white Thursday night when the Detroit Red Wings come to American Airlines Center for Dallas' home opener at 8:30 p.m. ET. Modano, a Michigan native, signed with the Wings this summer after the Stars opted not to re-sign him.

The Wings-Stars game is one of six on the NHL schedule for Thursday.

The action begins at 7 p.m. ET when Tampa Bay visits Philadelphia. The Flyers are 2-0-1 in their first three games and beat Colorado 4-2 in their home opener on Monday. The Wells Fargo Center will also have a homecoming, as longtime Flyer Simon Gagne comes to town with the Lightning after being dealt to Tampa Bay this summer. Also at 7, the Carolina Hurricanes play their first game in North America when they visit winless Ottawa. The 'Canes beat Minnesota twice in Helsinki last weekend as part of the Compuware NHL Premiere series.

An hour later, St. Louis tries to make it three wins in as many games when the Blues visit Nashville. They've allowed just two goals in going 2-0-0. The Predators are also 2-0-0 after winning 3-2 at Chicago on Wednesday.

The Wild, like the Hurricanes, are back in North America and host Edmonton in their home opener at 8:30 p.m. ET. The young Oilers are playing their first road game after starting their season with a pair of victories at Rexall Place.

The second of those wins came Sunday against Florida, which will be at Calgary in a game that begins at 9:30 p.m. ET. The Flames have been off since beating Los Angeles 3-1 on Sunday in their home opener. The Panthers are finishing a swing through Western Canada that has produced one-goal losses at Edmonton and Vancouver.
