Isles' Roloson ready to make history
Dwayne Roloson of the New York Islanders, who turned 41 on Tuesday, is scheduled to make his season debut Wednesday night when the Islanders visit the Washington Capitals. When he does, Roloson will become the ninth "regular" goaltender in NHL history -- and the 11th overall -- to play in a game at age 41 or older.

Two 45-year-olds have played goal in the NHL. Hall of Famer Johnny Bower was 45 when he finished his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs with one appearance in 1969-70, while Moe Roberts, a retired NHL goaltender serving on the Chicago Blackhawks' training staff, came out of retirement to play one period in relief of starter Harry Lumley in a game against the Detroit Red Wings on Nov. 25, 1951.

Three Hall of Famers played goal at age 44, but only two -- Gump Worsley and Jacques Plante -- were goaltenders. Lester Patrick, the coach and general manager of the New York Rangers, donned the gear in Game 2 of the 1928 Stanley Cup Final when starter Lorne Chabot was injured and couldn't continue. Patrick led the Rangers to a 2-1 overtime victory on April 8, 1928.
