Cammalleri receives one-game suspension for slash
When the Montreal Canadiens open their season in Toronto on Thursday, they'll be without the guy who led the NHL in goal-scoring during last season's Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Michael Cammalleri was suspended for one game by the NHL due to a slashing incident on Nino Niederreiter in a preseason game Saturday against the New York Islanders. Cammalleri received a five-minute major and game misconduct on the play, which occurred with 3:08 left in the second period.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Cammalleri will forfeit $32,258.06. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The 28-year-old Cammalleri is entering his second season with the Canadiens. He finished the regular season with 26 goals and 50 points in 65 regular-season games, then totaled 13 goals and 19 points during Montreal's magic run to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Quote of the Day

There was a lot of talk off the ice. From a player's standpoint, that's not the talk in the room. GMs make decisions, coaches make decisions, but as a team you have to come together and be ready to go, and we are.
