NHL-Net U.S. announces 2010-11 live game schedule

The NHL Network-U.S. will broadcast 78 live games this season, all in high-definition, and with all 30 teams appearing at least once.

NHL Network's season starts with the Saturday, Oct. 9, with an international-flavored doubleheader. At 3 p.m. ET, the San Jose Sharks and Columbus Blue Jackets will play in Stockholm as part of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere. And at 8:30 p.m., fans can watch the Chicago Blackhawks raise their Stanley Cup banner to the roof of the United Center when they host the Detroit Red Wings in their home opener.

Another highly emotional game should be the Dallas Stars' home opener Oct. 14, when they face the Detroit Red Wings and Mike Modano. Modano spent 20 years playing for the North Stars/Stars organization.

Other highlights from the season include a Nov. 24 Western Conference Finals rematch between the Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks; Dec. 2, when Dany Heatley returns to Ottawa for the first time as a member of the San Jose Sharks; Dec. 23, when the Penguins play at the Capitals in a preview of the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic; and Feb. 18, when the Carolina Hurricanes celebrate the career of former captain Rod Brind'Amour by retiring his number and then playing against one of his former teams, the Philadelphia Flyers.

Also returning to the network is CBC's "Hockey Night In Canada," every Saturday starting Oct. 23. That includes the famed "Coach's Corner" segment with Don Cherry and Ron MacLean, and "The Hot Stove."

And back again to provide highlights of all the action will be "NHL On The Fly," which returns at 8 p.m. on Oct. 4 with an Eastern Conference preview show. There will be a Western Conference preview show Oct. 5, and on Oct. 6 there will be an in-depth look at the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere games taking place around Europe.
