With less than three months to go before they face the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, the Washington Capitals unveiled the jerseys they will wear on what will surely be a historic  afternoon at Heinz Field.

In a tribute to the past, the Capitals will don their original white jerseys with the Washington Capitals logo worn from 1974-1995. Former captains Rod Langway and Yvon Labre joined Ovechkin on stage at the team's fan festival to model the Jan. 1 sweater. The Caps will also wear red pants and red helmets.

"It's pretty sick … I like it," Ovechkin said of the throwback-style uniform at the 2010 Capitals Convention, which had a capacity crowd of more than 6,000 fans.

More than 60,000 people are expected to be in attendance to watch the fierce rivals take it outside. The game will be televised nationally in the U.S. on NBC and on CBC and RDS in Canada.

"There is a great sense of history in playing hockey outdoors, and we wanted to pay tribute to our team's history with this uniform," Caps GM George McPhee said. "They turned out very well, got a terrific reaction from our fans and will look fantastic on New Year's Day."
