The team announced Thursday that Samsonov has been placed on injured reserve after he crashed into the boards during a game last Saturday against the Atlanta Thrashers and had to be taken to a hospital on a stretcher.
Samsonov suffered a neck injury and will not travel with the team to Helsinki. He will be reassessed when the Hurricanes return from Europe.
The 31-year-old forward is entering his fourth season with Carolina. He had 14 goals and 29 points in 72 games last season.
