Jackets sign Mason to two-year extension
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Steve Mason to a two-year contract extension through the 2012-13 National Hockey League season, club Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced September 20. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Mason, 22, has posted a 53-46-16 record, 2.65 goals-against average, .908 save percentage and 15 shutouts in 119 games during his first two NHL seasons with the Blue Jackets. The Oakville, Ontario, who was originally selected by the club with its second pick, 69th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, is the franchise’s career leader in shutouts.

"Steve Mason is a young goaltender with great size and athleticism and we are very pleased that we were able to agree on this contract extension," said Howson. "He is an important member of our team and we're excited that he will continue to be a significant contributor to our hockey club in the future."

Mason made his NHL debut in 2008-09, winning the Calder Memorial Trophy winner as NHL Rookie of the Year and earning NHL Second Team All-Star honors after posting a 33-20-7 record, 2.29 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and NHL-leading 10 shutouts. Last season, he was 20-26-9 with a 3.06 goals-against average, .901 save percentage and five shutouts in 58 games, including 7-8-3, 2.57 GAA, .923 SV% and three shutouts in his final 18 games.
