VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Veteran center Brendan Morrison will attend the Vancouver Canucks training camp on a professional tryout contract.

Morrison is a free agent after scoring 12 goals and 42 points in 74 games with Washington last season. The 35-year-old forward has 187 goals and 547 points in 829 career games with five NHL teams, including parts of eight seasons with the Canucks from 1999 to 2008.

Morrison had 393 points in 543 games in Vancouver, where he centered a dominant line with Todd Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund for four seasons. But he was slowed by a torn ACL late in 2008 and split the following season between Anaheim and Dallas before being signed by Washington.

Former forward Peter Schaefer was also invited to training camp, which opens Friday.

Schaefer was drafted by Vancouver in 1995 and spent parts of three seasons with the Canucks before being traded in 2002 to Ottawa, where he recorded 96 points in two seasons.

The 33-year-old has 98 goals and 259 points in 556 games, but didn't play at all last season after spending the previous year in the AHL and then having his contract bought out by Boston.
