Maltby agrees to one-year deal with Wings
Kirk Maltby agrees to one-year deal with Detroit Red Wings.
The Detroit Red Wings announced Wednesday they have re-signed veteran forward Kirk Maltby to a one-way, two-year contract. No financial terms were released, but ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun is reporting Maltby will make $525,000 if he stays in the NHL, $105,000 if he's in the minors.

Maltby, 37, has won four Stanley Cups with the Wings since arriving during the 1995-96 season. He's tied for eighth all-time in club history with 908 games played. He has 107 goals and 228 points, including 4 goals and 6 points in 52 games last season.

In 1,072 NHL games, Maltby, a third-round choice of the Edmonton Oilers in 1992, has 128 goals and 260 points.
Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
