Visit to in-laws leads to Bill Guerin skating with Flyers
According to Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com, veteran forward Bill Guerin is working out at the Philadelphia Flyers' practice facility in hope of landing a tryout offer from the team.
Visits to the in-laws generally rank low on most husbands' lists of fun things to do, so veteran forward Bill Guerin decided it was the right time to hit the ice.

Guerin was in Medford, N.J., visiting his father-in-law when he wanted to find some place to skate. The best available place, however, happened to be in nearby Voorhees, at the Philadelphia Flyers' practice site, which sparked reports that Guerin, a free agent, was attempting to earn a tryout invitation with the Flyers.

Guerin, however, said the only thing he wanted was some ice time; that it happened to be at the Flyers' home was irrelevant.

"I was down in the area visiting my father-in-law," Guerin said. "I was going to be in the area anyway and I wanted to get on the ice. My agent talked to Paul (Holmgren, Flyers' GM) about possibly having me come here and skate around with the guys. It was nice. It was good to finally get back on the ice and skate."

According to CSNPhilly.com, among those joining Guerin Tuesday were Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen and Jody Shelley.

The 39-year-old Guerin currently is without a home for the 2010-11 season. He had 21 goals and 45 points in 78 games last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was his fourth straight 20-goal season and 13th in his 18 NHL seasons.

In 1,263 career games with the Devils, Oilers, Bruins, Stars, Blues, Sharks, Islanders and Penguins, Guerin has 429 goals and 856 points.

While Guerin's agent told The Sporting News that he was speaking to a few teams regarding his client, Guerin didn't rule out Philadelphia as a landing spot.

"I really don’t know," Guerin replied when asked if the skate would lead to anything with the Flyers. "Right now, honestly, it is just about getting back on the ice. I'm just getting myself in shape -- skating shape -- to be ready just in case anything happens somewhere. I am definitely looking to play this year."

Non-Flyers skating at the club's practice site isn't a unique occurrence. Also on the ice Tuesday was former Flyer Todd Fedoruk, and Kings forward Justin Williams, who spent his first four seasons with the Flyers and maintains a home in New Jersey, also has worked out at the club's site.

Holmgren allows opposing players to use the Flyers' facilities for summer training, but once Labor Day comes, that courtesy ends and the building becomes for Flyers players and prospects only.
