Maple Leafs, Hanson agree on one-year deal
Toronto Maple Leafs sign Christian Hanson.
Restricted free-agent forward Christian Hanson signed a one-year contract Tuesday to remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hanson, 24, split last season between the Leafs and their AHL affiliate. In 31 NHL games, the 6-foot-3, 202-pound center had 2 goals and 7 points. In 38 games with the AHL Toronto Marlies, Hanson was fourth on the team with 31 points.

He finished his season playing for the U.S. at the World Championship. In six games, he had 1 assist and a plus-2 rating.

Hanson made his NHL debut when he joined the Leafs for five games last season after finishing his college career at Notre Dame. In four NCAA seasons, Hanson had 36 goals and 64 points in 140 games.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
