The Toronto Maple Leafs bolstered their blue line Friday, as they acquired defenseman Matt Lashoff from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for forwards Alex Berry and Stefano Giliati.

Lashoff, 23, spent the majority of last season in the American Hockey League, although he did appear in five games for the Lightning. He was held without a point and recorded 21 penalty minutes. In 68 games with AHL Norfolk, he went 8-16-24 with 105 penalty minutes.

Overall, Lashoff has a goal and 14 assists in 63 NHL games between Tampa Bay and the Boston Bruins. Lashoff was selected in the first round by the Bruins (No. 22) at the 2005 Entry Draft.

Berry, 24, has yet to appear in an NHL game. He had 3 goals, 4 assists and 97 penalty minutes in 55 games with AHL Toronto last season. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound right wing also had five assists in five games for ECHL Reading.

Giliati, 22, had 23 goals, 32 assists and 76 penalty minutes in just 46 games for Reading last season. A Montreal native, Giliati also went 3-6-9 in 25 games for AHL Toronto.
