Daly discusses Kovalchuk situation
TORONTO -- Monday night at the Molson World Hockey Summit, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly admitted that League officials met that day with a contingent from the New Jersey Devils to discuss the Ilya Kovalchuk situation.

Despite reports to the contrary, no new contract was submitted to the League.

"There was no new contract submitted," Daly said. "We talked conceptually."

According to reports, Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek, GM Lou Lamoriello and Jay Grossman, Kovalchuk's agent, were in the meeting.

Kovalchuk became a free agent again earlier this month after the 17-year contract he signed with the Devils on July 19 was ruled null and void by an arbiter Richard Bloch.
Quote of the Day

When somebody goes out and is there to score goals, but is also there to make some big hits, fight, do all of those things, and he has a great mustache, it was great to see him get that hit and get everybody going.
