TORONTO --  Jonathan Toews still hasn't seen the footage of his buddy, Patrick Kane, stuck about three stories up in the bucket of a fire engine during his Cup day in Buffalo. Oh, but the Blackhawks captain has heard enough about it to declare this:
 
"It serves him right," Toews cracked to NHL.com Friday. "They should have left him up there all day."
 
Kane eventually made it back down to earth after two mechanics fixed the motor that operates the ladder. He was suspended in the Buffalo air for about 20 minutes and came down shaking and tightly clutching the Stanley Cup.
 
When reached by text message on Friday, Kane had this to say to NHL.com in response to Toews' afforementioned comment:

"He's just mad my two days with the Cup were better than his."
 
Toews still plans to get plenty of jabs in about Kane's bucket experience when the Hawks gather for training camp next month. For now, though, he's still following the tails of his teammates and former teammates as they spent their days with the Stanley Cup.

"I looked at Nikky Hjalmarsson's day (on NHL.com) and I talked to Fras (Colin Fraser), Ladder (Andrew Ladd), Seabs (Brent Seabrook) and Duncs (Duncan Keith) about their days," Toews said. "You miss the small things like that because you're so busy with your own things. I'd love to be there with these guys following their days, following around the Cup. If I was one of the Cup keepers, I'd have had a great time this summer."

Toews certainly did with his two-day Cup celebration in Winnipeg last month, but since then he's turned his focus to training for the upcoming season.

"You don't want to do it too quickly or too soon, but at a certain point to yourself you have to say it's last year, it's over, move on and aspire for new things," Toews said. "We know our fans will always remember that, but they're going to be hungry for more this year so we have to give them more to cheer about. We're definitely not going to be living in the past this year."
