The Atlanta Thrashers have hired former NHL goalie Clint Malarchuk as their new goaltending consultant.

Malarchuk also has worked for the Florida Panthers and Columbus Blue Jackets. Malarchuk helped Roberto Luongo reach his first All-Star Game in 2003-04, and helped Steve Mason win the Calder Trophy and lead the Blue Jackets to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history in 2008-09.

Malarchuk played 338 games over 10 NHL seasons with the Quebec Nordiques, Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres.

For me, it's a great win for our hockey team and for a lot of people back in Columbus, especially our fans in particular … people who have been devoted to this organization, it's big.
