The New Jersey Devils have named Rick Kowalsky the new coach of their American Hockey League team, the Albany Devils.

Kowalsky had spent the previous four seasons coaching the team's ECHL affiliate, the Trenton Devils. He won the 2009 John Brophy Award as the league's coach of the year.

Former Devils defenseman and assistant coach Tommy Albelin will serve as an assistant under Kowalsky.

Kevin Dean, who was an assistant coach under new Devils coach John MacLean last season when the club's AHL franchise was in Lowell, will replace Kowalsky in Trenton. Vince Williams will remain on board as an assistant coach in Trenton.

"A commitment to winning, as well as the development of our players, has and will always be top priorities," said Chris Lamoriello, the general manager of the Devils' minor-league teams. "Both head coaches and assistant coaches have been part of our organization at different levels for a number of years. We are confident in their ability to develop our prospects for the NHL level, both on and off the ice."
