According to multiple reports, arbitrator Richard Bloch denied the NHL Players' Association's grievance over the NHL ruling Ilya Kovalchuk's contract with the New Jersey Devils null and void because it circumvented the salary cap, returning Kovalchuk to unrestricted free-agent status.
