Wild sign veteran center Madden
The Minnesota Wild added a veteran with Stanley Cup experience to their lineup Friday when they announced the signing of center John Madden to a contract for the 2010-11 season.

"It's not every day you can add a three-time Stanley Cup winner to your roster," Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said. "Not only does John add depth at the center position, but he also brings character and a winning tradition to the locker room."

Known through his career as a defensive and faceoff specialist, Madden is coming off the third Stanley Cup championship of his career, playing for the Chicago Blackhawks last season and recording 10 goals and 23 points in 79 regular-season games along with a goal and an assist in 22 playoff games.

Prior to last season, Madden played 10 seasons with the New Jersey Devils, winning the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003. An undrafted free agent, he has career totals of 150 goals and 320 points in 791 regular-season games and 21 goals and 43 points in 134 playoff games.

Quote of the Day

I'm hoping Bob [Murray] didn't go out and get Dany Heatley just to get someone. I'm sure he's excited and motivated.
